DERRY GIRLS 2018 TV Series Season 3 - Episode 1

It follows the escapades of a group of teens as they grow up amongst the Troubles in Northern Ireland. Love this show the four main girls, and James have a great chemistry going on between them and the support cast are just as impressive. Sad this is the last season how about a MOVIE hint hint. In this episode watch out for Liam Neeson playing a police officer - their is no tape. Tomorrow is GCSE results day, and while passions run high, confidence is at rock bottom. They definitely need a plan. Back home, a new member of the Quinn household is causing chaos in the neighbourhood.

MERMAID DOWN 2019 Horror Fantasy Film

You will need a vivid imagination to grasp unto this one's coat tails. Two ageing trawlermen are looking for that one big pay off before retiring. Their plan is to capture a mermaid and cut of her tail so she can't escape them and to sell both parts to whoever bids the most. Unknown to them another boat in the area carrying a Dr. Miller is witness to her capture and he decides he wants to take her back to his mental institution for further study. Sure it's a far fetched storyline although the visuals and the mermaid do look the part. I have and will see worse films in the future. Thier is also a friendly ghost floating about.

BEYOND ATLANTIS 1973 Science Fiction Horror Film

A band of adventurers invade a native island determined to grab a reported fortune in pearls. The islanders are just as determined to keep their sacred treasure. Featuring a young Sid Haig (Captain Spaulding in the Rob Zombie films House of 1000 Corpses, The Devil's Rejects and 3 From Hell), as East Eddie. Some notes on this one 1. how do you mate with a native princess while wearing a wet suit lol. 2. the New's At Ten music is playing during the women's fight scene a bit surreal that. 3. the islanders are supposedly decendants of Minoans from the lost city of Atlantis, based on the theory that Atlantis is Minoan Crete.

BLACKLIGHT 2022 Action Thriller Film

Travis Block (Liam Neeson), a Vietnam War veteran, works for the Director of the FBI Gabriel Robinson as a fixer, bringing in agents who are in unstable or tricky situations. He wants to retire and spend more time with his daughter and granddaughter, but Robinson is reluctant to let him go. Neeson has made this niche his own you want action, action is what you get. Reminded me a bit of the Transporter movies (Jason Statham), as Travis says, "They're gonna need more men".

INTERMISSION 2003 Irish Black Comedy Crime Film

Set in Dublin, Ireland, contains many interconnected storylines, and is shot in a documentary-like style, with some sections presented as excerpts from television programs that exist within the show (one of the storylines follows a television documentary director). It features several of Ireland's best-known actors, including Cillian Murphy, Kelly Macdonald, Colm Meaney and Colin Farrell, all of whom have featured in internationally successful films such as 28 Days Later (Murphy), Trainspotting (Macdonald), The Commitments (Meaney) and Minority Report (Farrell). The film opens with Lehiff (Colin Farrell) charming a pretty cashier. It is quickly revealed that Lehiff is a petty criminal and always involved in trouble. Lehiff's nemesis, Garda Detective Jerry Lynch (Colm Meaney), presents himself as a saviour whose main mission is to fight the "scumbags" on Dublin's streets. Watch out for the brown sauce sandwiches and sauce in the tea (dare you to try it).

OUTER RANGE 2022 Supernatural Mystery Thriller TV Series Season 1 - Episode 1

A rancher fighting for his land and family discovers an unfathomable mystery at the edge of Wyoming's wilderness. Ladies and gentlemen that plot line tells you very little of what is going on here because watching just one episode isn't going to do it. I make some notes while I am watching these programmes so I will just go with those. Though is it just me or are tv shows getting harder to work out what is going on. First I was put off a little by to many night scenes it is almost impossible to see what is going on. The head of the family Royal Abbott bears the world on his shoulders and his life is not going to get any easier. Lots of things go missing around here like time, cattle and people. Suddenly a mysterious hole appears from nowhere which could be anything (my guess at this time is some sort of time portal). When the hole appeared the first thing to spring to mind was last years tv series La Brea which featured a massive sinkhole opening up and taking the people who fell in to an alternate world below. Then a strange girl appears at the ranch looking for somewhere to camp and it quickly becomes apparent that she knows more of what is happening than most. After a while she starts telling the rancher about the god Chronos and that the appearance of the hole is his doing. No idea were this story is going but I am probably going with it.

BUBBLE BOY 2001 Black Comedy Film (Not for kids)

Born without an immune system, Jimmy Livingston lives in a sterilized dome in his bedroom in his home in California, earning him the nickname "Bubble Boy" by his neighbors. His overbearing and devout Christian mother only exposes him to Highlights magazine and Land of the Lost for entertainment. When he is a teenager, Jimmy is immediately taken with Chloe who moves in next door and the two become friends, despite his mother's discouragement. When Chloe leaves for Niagara Falls to marry her boyfriend Mark in three days' time, Jimmy realizes that Chloe cares for him and builds a mobile bubble suit, determined to stop the wedding. My 3rd time watching this one and I am only realising now that my man Danny Trejo is in it. Was a good half hour in before I was even sure it was the right film then the memory fog started to lift. Two lines stand out for me a Hindu ice cream and curry seller says "have you ever been bitch slapped by a six handed goddess." The other is when Bubble Boy and the Chinese wrestling compare start arguing over the prize money for a mud wrestling competition "500 dollar you want 500 dollar". Just found out one of the lady wrestlers was professional wrestler Stacy Keibler (she has the longest legs) who went on to have a great career. The film was inspired by the 1976 movie The Boy in the Plastic Bubble now added to my watch list.

THE CYCLOPS 1957 B/W Science Fiction Horror Film

My reason for watching this one was I wanted to see how they portrayed the cyclops nothing more. Never seen this film before unusal for me and sadly I won't be going looking for it again. When I saw the credits I realised that Lon Chancey Jr. was in it which to me was a plus sign. Myself an Lon go way back to my early teens when I sat through my first horror film (from behind the sofa) in which he was starring in The Wolfman (1941). Sadly by this stage of his career things were on a bit of a downward spiral.

It seems the financing for the film fell through and they had to rush to get it finished in 5 or 6 days and it shows. The plot test pilot Bruce Barton is missing somewhere in the jungles of Mexico (new to me I didn't know they had jungles in Mexico)and his girlfriend, Susan Winter organizes a search party. The team of 4 include Susan, scientist Russ Bradford, mining expert Martin "Marty" Melville (Lon Chaney Jr.) and pilot Lee Brand each with their own agenda for being there. While searching the area, however, they uncover extemely high levels of radioactivity from massive radium deposits in the area, which seem to affect the growth rate of both animals and humans. Apparently the theme of a monster created as a result of radioactivity was a common one in the 1950s. Their is some seriously bad acting and editing in this it looked like Chaney and Gloria Talbot (Susan) just didn't want to be there. Though saying that Gloria like many actresses of that time knew the visual effect of a good tight sweater.

My favourite line has to be from Russ Bradford, "the secret of continuous limitless multiplication of living cells in ordinary animals." said in one long gasping breath. So basically the film consists of the 4 of them running around in the jungle searching. The cyclops was spot on he didn't have many lines it's just the rest of the film was lacking thankfully at 66 minutes short enough.

MOON KNIGHT 2022 Marvel Fantasy TV Mini Series Episode 1

Marc Spector (played by Oscar Isacc) is a Jewish-American mercenary with dissociative identity disorder (DID) who becomes the avatar for the Egyptian moon god Khonshu, with one of his identities being Steven Grant, a mild-mannered British gift-shop employee suffering from blackouts and memories of another life, who becomes Mr. Knight, Grant's persona when he is Khonshu's avatar. To prepare for the role, Isaac read Robert B. Oxnam's book A Fractured Mind which he called his "bible". Grant has tension with Spector when the two personalities first become aware of each other. Mr. Knight uses Grant's knowledge of ancient Egypt to help get out of conflicts with wits and puzzle solving, which is a contrast to Spector's Moon Knight persona.

Well does that make sense, I have to admit the first episode was pretty confusing it takes a lot of concentration to decipher this one. Although saying that it does look interesting (egyptian mythology) and definitely worth another look.

ANCIENT X-FILES TV Series 2015 Season 1 - Episode 1 - The Holy Grail And The Minotaur

Investigators are sent to try and uncover the truth surrounding two legends in the first part they ask, could the Valencia Chalice be the actual holy grail. The Holy Grail is traditionally thought to be the cup that Jesus Christ drank from at the Last Supper and that Joseph of Arimathea used to collect Jesus's blood at his crucifixion. We hear about Hitlers obsession with finding the grail said to be a source of great power. We learn that this version of the grail, their are many others is made from agate stone wich many Roman cups were made off around the period in question. Some believe the poem Parzival by Wolfram von Eschenbach when deciphered shows that the grail did indeed come to Spain and was sent there by St. Laurence, the glorious Spaniard martyred on a gridiron during the Valerian persecution in Rome in 258 AD.

Part 2 concerns the Minotaur of Greek legend or in this case the search for the labyrinth. The legend goes that after ascending the throne of the island of Crete, Minos competed with his brothers as ruler. Minos prayed to the sea god Poseidon to send him a snow-white bull as a sign of the god's favour. Minos was to sacrifice the bull to honor Poseidon, but owing to the bull's beauty he decided instead to keep him. Minos believed that the god would accept a substitute sacrifice. To punish Minos, Poseidon made Minos' wife Pasiphaë fall in love with the bull. Pasiphaë had the craftsman Daedalus fashion a hollow wooden cow, which she climbed into in order to mate with the bull. The monstrous Minotaur was the result. Pasiphaë nursed the Minotaur but he grew in size and became ferocious. As the unnatural offspring of a woman and a beast, the Minotaur had no natural source of nourishment and thus devoured humans for sustenance. Minos, following advice from the oracle at Delphi, had Daedalus construct a gigantic Labyrinth to hold the Minotaur. Its location was near Minos' palace in Knossos. The Minotaur was eventually killed by the Athenian hero Theseus. Various locations are considered and investigated with different levels of success.

TIME TEAM 1994 History Archaeology TV Series Season 1 - Episode 1 - The Guerrilla Base of the King

Presented by actor Tony Robinson, (Baldrick of Blackadder fame) each episode featured a team of specialists carrying out an archaeological dig over a period of three days, with Robinson explaining the process as they went along. In this episode a farming family have asked Time Team to verify that King Alfred when in hiding from the Danes in 878 in the marshland of Athelney, Somerset had indeed constructed a fort and a abbey on their land. Details of his life are described in a work by 9th-century Welsh scholar and bishop Asser. In January 878, the Danes made a sudden attack on Chippenham, a royal stronghold in which Alfred had been staying over Christmas "and most of the people they killed, except the King Alfred, and he with a little band made his way by wood and swamp, and after Easter he made a fort at Athelney in the marshes of Somerset, and from that fort kept fighting against the foe". From his fort at Athelney, an island in the marshes near North Petherton, Alfred was able to mount a resistance campaign, rallying the local militias from Somerset, Wiltshire and Hampshire.

The Cake Legend - A legend tells how when Alfred first fled to the Somerset Levels, he was given shelter by a peasant woman who, unaware of his identity, left him to watch some wheaten cakes she had left cooking on the fire. Preoccupied with the problems of his kingdom, Alfred accidentally let the cakes burn and was roundly scolded by the woman upon her return. In the seventh week after Easter (May 878), around Whitsuntide, Alfred rode to Egbert's Stone east of Selwood where he was met by "all the people of Somerset and of Wiltshire and of that part of Hampshire which is on this side of the sea (that is, west of Southampton Water), and they rejoiced to see him". Alfred's emergence from his marshland stronghold was part of a carefully planned offensive that entailed raising the fyrds of three shires. Alfred won a decisive victory in the ensuing Battle of Edington which may have been fought near Westbury, Wiltshire. He then pursued the Danes to their stronghold at Chippenham and starved them into submission. One of the terms of the surrender was that Guthrum convert to Christianity. Three weeks later, the Danish king and 29 of his chief men were baptised at Alfred's court at Aller, near Athelney, with Alfred receiving Guthrum as his spiritual son.
